Friend

Today's OneWord is 'Friend'

Friendship comes in all shapes and sizes and all genders and ethnicities. Esteemed friendships are like the relationships we have with our sisters or brothers. These friendships like gemstones are all natural, no synthetics, and no imitations! Some are fiery, exciting, peaceful, and treasured. We must learn to love and respect those friends whether they are in our life for a reason, a season, or a life time. We do not always coincide with each other, but we tend to understand. A real friend will listen to what's being said. They will share stories of excitement. They will voice concerns about things that are offensive, but love you anyway.

A gracious friend wants to know what calms, makes your heart speed up, and even skip a beat. "Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend" (Proverbs 27:17). Our personalities, our intelligence, and our capabilities are given to us by God to help others not be jealous of them. Meetings of the minds help us stretch our thoughts about our situations to ensure clarity, and create new insights about our problems or aspirations. We must be friends who are flexible enough to make changes, but faithful enough never to compromise on the essentials. Righteous friends are discreet and careful with secrets. No one should ever hear through the grapevine anything shared to friends in confidence. Are you a true friend? Telling people's secrets will certainly keep us alone. Friends welcome you as God knows you and not what others think you are.

Jesus gave us the greatest definition of a true friend in John 15:13-15. Jesus is the genuine servant of a proper friend for He laid down His life for His "friends. How calm and reassuring to be chosen as one of His friends. We are to love one another as Jesus loved us. He loved us enough to give His life for us. How many friends do you know who will give their life for you?

When we first meet a person, we have already sized them up within the first three minutes of the conversation. When choosing friends or someone chooses you as a friend, a pleasant view of iron sharpening iron is the main focus, not one that suggests selfishness or usability. Think about how Jesus chose his disciples, they were personally picked by Him. Remarkable friends have integrity. A true friend will never agree to do anything or seek to compromise your integrity. Friends do not follow one another. A relationship where equality exists is one that can flourish and bloom. Proverbs 17:17 states that, "A friend loveth at all times..." Remember there is a vast difference in between just knowing someone and being a real friend. I want my friends to know that I love each of you, just because we are FRIENDS.
