Surely, He Can!

Worry! Worry is an inside job. When we worry we are being anxious and pulled apart in different directions. Worry of this kind strangles us, and it has some physical consequences. Worry causes neck pain, ulcers, headaches, back pain, depression and other negative elements. Worry has a significant way of affecting our thinking. If anybody had an excuse to worry, it was Paul. He faced so many burdens of the church and so many burdens of his own. He even faced the possibility of death. Instead, Paul took the time to explain to us the secret of victory over worry. He told us in Phil 4:4-7, "Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus." God has already given us the correct anecdote for worry and that is to have a secure mind in Him. We are to come into our life battles as a warrior standing firmly on the Word of God. God doesn't need a rehearsal. He doesn't need practice. He is able to take the worry away! He is able to do what He said.

The Word says not to worry! He can deliver you! I am a witness! Paul was full of joy because He knew that no matter what happened to him, Jesus was with him. Amen! I believe ultimate joy comes from knowing Jesus dwelling within us. We are not to be anxious over anything. I believe the peace of God shall keep our mind and heart. To acquire this peace, we must meet the conditions that God laid down for us to follow. They are right praying, thinking, and living. We are to be careful for nothing, which means don't worry! I know we have worries in our homes, on our jobs, in our children schools, or even in the church. But Paul's advice is to turn our worries into prayer. God's peace is different from the world's way to live. He wants us to pray about everything and worry about nothing. I can assure you, God will give you peace in the midst of a storm.

So today, if you are reading this devotional, you can say, 'Surely, He will deliver me'. Did He make a way out of no way? Surely! Did He keep you? Surely! Did He heal you? Surely! Did He give you peace, joy, and love? Surely! Did He save your marriage? Surely! Did He deliver you from drug and alcohol abuse? Surely! Did He forgive you? Surely! Did He allow you another opportunity to get it right? Surely! Did He put food on your table? Surely! Did He give you new mercies this morning? Surely! Then He can take away your worries. I am reminded of this old hymn "God Will Take Care of You," written by Civilla D. Martin (1869-1948):

Be not dismayed whate'er betide,
God will take care of you;
Beneath His wings of love abide,
God will take care of you.

No matter what may be the test,
God will take care of you;
Lean, weary, one upon His breast,
God will take care of you.

God will take care of you.
Through every day, o'er all the way
He will take care of you,
God will take care of you.

Lean and depend on God for Surely, He can!

Much love,
